PPupTrace · A Process Journal
The making of a portrait

From your photo.
To their portrait.

— A note from the studio

Every PupTrace pendant begins the same way: with a single photo, sent by someone who loves their pet very much.

What follows is the journey from that photo to a piece of jewelry — drawn by hand, laser-engraved into 316L surgical steel, and tucked into a box. Five chapters. Real people. No shortcuts.

Chapter I.
Upload · 2 minutes

It begins
with one photo.

A clear photo of your pet — face in focus, decent natural light. Most phone photos work. Old prints, blurry candids — we'll do our best from what you have. If a photo can't carry the engraving, we'll reach out before we begin.

Chapter II.
Hand draw · By a real artist

Drawn by one
real artist.

A trained portrait artist studies your photo and draws your pet entirely from scratch — every whisker, every marking, the exact ring around their eyes, the curve of their ear. No filters. No AI. One person, one pencil, several hours of focused work.

Chapter III.
Vectorize · Refined for the laser

Refined into
engraving art.

The pencil portrait is scanned, traced, and refined into precise line work the laser can follow. Every shadow becomes a stroke; every stroke becomes a path. No raster compromise — every line stays crisp at any size.

Chapter IV.
Engrave · Built to never fade

Held in
the metal itself.

Your portrait is laser-engraved directly into 316L surgical steel — every line of the drawing burned into the metal's surface at a depth measured in microns. This is not printed. This is not coated. Built to never fade.
